Winter Singles Leagues
During the past week Jiulio Loner and Dave Costello played their first league matches and were happy with their 2 point returns. The majority of players are waiting for the new-year to shake off the Christmas excesses and play their five competitive matches by mid- February.

Our website has been redesigned by Mark Grenham from Avova Technologies Ltd and is now much easier to follow. We greatly appreciate the voluntary work done by Graham. Recently the Gallery section has been greatly added to with 78 photos for 2015, 60 for 2014, 54 for 2013, 66 for 2012, 88 for 2011, 43 for 2010 and 41 for 2009.
Members can browse through them during the festive period, athlonetennisclub.com, and hopefully have a laugh. Later years will be added by the new-year.
American Tournament
At our recent AGM it was agreed that the club organise an American tournament on the first Sunday of every month. Consequently our first one will be on January 3rd starting at 11am and continuing for two hours. An American tournament is played with half the games in a set played with your partner and half against your partner. We generally play sets of 8 games in our mixed doubles tournaments however in an American tournament the ladies would change partners after every 4 games.
Social Tennis
During Monday night’s men’s session Pawel Michalski and Arek Trezebski contributed to a great night’s tennis, both bringing their range of skills to bear on the opposition. Mary Jo O Farrell and Rose Costello among the lady competitors who contributed to an excellent Tuesday night’s tennis. The mixed doubles last week was a bit like an American tournament with partners changing after every set. Gertie and Martin O Rourke were among the active sporting contestants.
