Athlone Senior Open
Our senior open will have 15 competitions this year catering for a wide class of players across the midlands. The ladies and men’s singles will cater for 4 classes, A, B, C and over 45’s. The ladies and men’s doubles will cater for class A and B. The mixed doubles will have players of ability A, B and C.
The official forms for these competitions are now in the clubhouse and the draw will be made July 3rd at 6pm. Play commences on July 5th with the finals on Sunday July 12th the same day as the Wimbledon men’s final.
The Midland Tennis Leagues will start in the week commencing 20th July with players from the midlands able to play in six different divisions.
Members interested playing in these friendly competitive competitions should register their names on the form in the clubhouse.
Athlone has won division 2 four times. In 1993 the winning team members were Mary O’ Neill, Ann O’ Sullivan, Kay Delaney, Ailbie Conway, Martin Egan and Brendan Bacon.
The 1999 winners were Lisa Brennan, Anne Dooley, Anna Walsh, Raymond Murphy, Clem Higginbotham and Dave Costello.
From 2000 the teams were reduced to four players and in 2004 the winning team was Lisa Brennan, Anna Walsh, Ger O’ Donoghue and Eugene Dooley. We last won in 2006, the team then was Lisa Brennan, Darina Doyle, Rob Kearney and Lucasz Mierzwa.

Senior Summer Leagues
The date for completion of the summer leagues has been extended until Thursday July 1st with presentation of prizes that night. So far it seems that Paula Dowling, Anne Dooley and Sine Mac Farlane will be the winners of the ladies groups.
Pawel Michalski has won group A of the men’s league with no clear winner of the other groups. The results of the final few matches will determine the winners.
We have two summer camps this year, the first starting Monday 13th July and the second starting Monday 27th July. The camps start at 10am and continue until 1pm for five days. To book a place or more information contact Clem 0864022490.
