Easter Junior Competition
A hugely successful tennis competition for juniors was held on Easter Monday at Athlone Tennis Club. It was attended by almost 30 enthusiastic young tennis players ranging in age from 6 to 16. The format was doubles and there were three competitions: one for the very young, one for 9- to 12-year-olds and one for teenagers. The winners in the ‘young players’ category were Evie-Rose O Meara, Cuan Ryan and Emily Petit. The winners in the intermediate section were Margaret Menton and Conor Matthews in first place with Bebhinn O Meara and Cilian Kenny as runners-up. In the senior competition Jack O Shea and Abhinav Bhyrraju-Varma and Hannah Henneghan and Donal McDermott were the most successful.
Club nights continue on Monday (gentlemen’s night), Wednesday (ladies’ night) and Thursday (mixed doubles night). Play begins at 7.30 pm each night, so grab your racket and come on down to the club for a night of fun.
