Senior Club Championships
Seven senior club championship cup and plate finals sponsored by Sidero Technology Solutions, were played last Saturday, in favourable conditions. Play commenced at 2pm and continued on the four courts until after 9pm. Players and spectators were treated to hours of excellent tennis matches, interspersed with the usual fine array of refreshments. Fair to say that not all saw out the seven entertaining hours. The merry sufficient few, who did, enjoyed the last men’s doubled plate match where Ronan Flanagan and Peter Agbanobi overcame Sai Palada and Cathal Kenny.
The evening’s entertainment commenced with Paula Dowling and Orla Kinahan playing in the ladies’ final while Sundar Balasubramanian played against Barry O’ Shea in the Dave Costello Cup. Both matches were three setters, lasting until well after 4pm, the spectators, especially the junior members were engrossed in both encounters, while the players next on the courts were itching to start.
All the cup and plate finals had their own exciting and exceptional moments but two more three setters were highly entertaining for all present. Sisters Maree Brennan and Natasha Shine, in the Ida Smith Cup final, both kept the spectators on edge with steady consistent rallies. The men’s final between first time finalists, Des Windsor Mc Glynn and Peter Agbonabi, was a very close encounter, Peter clinching the third set 7-5, both played sublime tennis.
This year’s club championships, which had a record number of participants, was very well organised and all participants helped by playing their matches, especially first round matches as specified. Lisa Brennan and Jacinta Digby kept members up to date on championship progress through Facebook and our WhatsApp. The efforts members made in providing savouries was satisfying and very much appreciated, their zeal contributed to an enjoyable and memorable day.

Senior Autumn Singles Leagues
Members have until Friday to sign up if they wish to play in our autumn singles leagues, the official form is in the clubhouse or use the usual technology method.
Senior Club Nights
Our senior club nights will return Monday 4th October, the men’s autumn doubles will recommence that Monday with the ladies having use of the courts every Wednesday. Mixed doubles competition will be every Thursday, all commencing at 7.30. Sunday’s mixed doubles will commence at 11am, all members welcome to come along to the above sessions, as appropriate.
