Men’s Summer Doubles League

 The second round of the men’s summer doubles league saw the return of George Viking Bador, after wintering in Romania, he partnered Marek Rose, both achieving four points. Three points were awarded to Sai Palada and Rob Kearney who were second placed. Joint third were Sean Raftery/John O’ Connell and Peter Agbanobi and Dave Costello, all four added two points to their collections. Play is from 7.30 to 9.30 and all members are welcome to participate in this friendly competitive league.

Wednesday: Ladies Night

 There was a large turnout of ladies last Wednesday. Marie and Natasha Mc Grath, Loretto Lee, Helen Claffey and Elaine Keogh were among the ladies enjoying a good workout on the courts. They were joined by Jacinta Digby, Julie and Rose Costello, Lola Fernandez Palos, Evgenyia Yurchenko and Mary Jo O’ Farrell. Ladies have exclusive use of the courts every Wednesday and all members are welcome to participate, teams will be organised at 7.30.

Thursday & Sunday: Mixed Doubles

 Duos Deborah Mc Keown and Vijyant Singh, Jacinta Digby and Isaac Del Saz Palos had the more competitive edge in our mixed doubles last Thursday.

Sunday’s mixed doubles starts at 11 and last week novel partnerships of Marie Mc Grath/Dave Costello and Natasha Mc Grath/Marek Rose were among those competing in glorious sunshine.  

Membership Fees

 All existing members are reminded that their fobs will be deactivated from next Monday for non-payment of membership fees Potential members can now join our friendly club also. Please visit our website, athlonetennisclub.com, for further information. Fees can, preferably, be paid on line. 

Coaching

 Clem Higginbotham’s coaching sessions continue every Saturday at 10am for children 5 to 9 years old. At 11 he coaches children ages 10 to 12 and he coaches older children from 12 noon. Please contact Clem at 0864022490 to register for these sessions as numbers are limited.

Wimbledon

The grass season is now in full swing leading up to the third Grand Slam of the year. Among the opens last week were Bermingham, Halle and Queen’s Club where Daria Kasatkina Ugo Humbert, Matteo Berrettini were the winners respectively. Qualification rounds for Wimbledon begin this week with the competition proper beginning next Monday. Two of the most notable players, not travelling to Wimbledon, are Naomi Osaka and Rafael Nadal.
