Senior Club Championships

 The senior club championships are making excellent progress thanks to the commitment of all participants. The promised fine weather for this week will see more players exit competitions while all the beaten first round players make progress in the plate competitions. Finals day will be September 26th or 27th depending on the weather conditions. All first round defeated players will be entered in plate competitions. Events are the best of three sets but the third set may be a champion’s tie break, first to reach ten but must win by two.

Men may organise championship matches, every Monday night, the ladies may do the same every Wednesday night and mixed doubles matches may be organised during Thursday and Sunday mixed doubles booked times. Members may cancel a club booking and organise championship match.  

Club Championship Progress

 Seeded players Harry O’ Rourke and Sean Raftery are on course to meet in the men’s final. Rob Kearney, Sai Palada and Des Windsor Mc Glynn were winners last week. Both ladies semi-finals have Lisa Brennan playing Rose Costello while Sinead Reidy will play Anna Walsh.

Ida Smith Cup players still in contention to win this cup are Marie Brennan, Cara Keenan and Yvonne Walsh, Amie Maher, Louise Costello and Audrey Harney Nolan.

Dave Costello Cup winners were Benny Maginess, Isaac Del Saz Palos, George Jebaraj and Sean Nolan.

Men’s Doubles winners during the week were Harry O’ Rourke and Kieran Mc Nally as were Rob Kearney and John Bray. Ladies’ Doubles winners were Anne Dooley and Rose Costello, Anna Walsh and Amie Maher plus Eugeniya Yurchenko/Noirin Reidy. Mixed Doubles winners were Martina Hardiman/Peter Agbanobi, Sine Mcfarlane/Marek Rose, Lola Fernandez Palos/John Bray, Anne Dooley/George Teberaj, Julie Costello/Isaac Del Saz Palos and Oonagh Collins/Cathal Kenny.

Moate’s Invitation Tennis Competition

 Moate Tennis Club’s invitation mixed doubles competition will see one quarter and one semi-final this Wednesday. Julie Costello and Richard Frank will play Rose and Dave Costello in the first semi-final. Kathleen Flynn and John Galvin will play Carmel Hayes and Keith Mc Kiernan in the quarter final, the winner will compete against Mary Rose Mc Intyre and John O’ Connell in the second semi-final. Credit to Carmel Hayes and Jimmy Raleigh who organised this friendly event.

Club Social Tennis Events

 Club social competitions continued last week with reduced courts due to championship matches. Monday’s competitive duo were Jesus Areso and Sean Raftery, Among Wednesday’s ladies competitors were Deborah Mc Keown and Oonagh Collins, Thursday’s mixed doubles prominent combination were Evgeniya Yurchenko and Ken Phelan while Sunday’s best were Lola Fernandez Palos and Sai Palada.

Covid 19 Recommendations

 All members are urged to bring their own hand sanitizer, however the club has installed a hand sanitise dispenser near the club house door.
