Athlone Tennis Club
Junior Club Championships
The under ten boys and girls preliminary round matches were played last Sunday as were the doubles events for all age groups. The under 12’s and 14’s will be in action this Sunday. Lisa is organising the event from 2 to 4pm.
Senior Club Championships
Members are reminded that the senior club championships will be run off over three weeks commencing 8th September. Interested members can register to play in all the events on the official form in the clubhouse or on the website.
Midland League
Our division 3 and 4 teams had matches against Roscrea and Birr Wilmer during the past week both losing out on 1-3. Partnerships Des Windsor Mc Glynn/Richard Frank and John Galvin/Dave Costello tasted victory in the men’s doubles respectively. Michele Culligan and Melanie Whyte lost their match also Laura Hunt and Joan Conway were narrowly defeated. The division 3 team has a home match against Birr Wilmer this Tuesday.
Mullingar Open
Best of luck to Lisa Brennan, Laura Hunt, Paula Dowling, Rob Kearney, Richard Frank, Jimmy Raleigh, Kieran Mc Carthy, David Manser, John Galvin, Peter Agbanobi and Lukasz Mierzwa who are competing in the Mullingar Open this week.
Men’s Autumn Doubles League
Des Windsor Mc Glynn and Jamie Waldron were the winners of the men’s doubles autumn league last Monday. Harry O’ Rourke and Jimmy Raleigh were second while Rob Kearney and Vincent Hall were third placed. New members are most welcome to come along at 7.30 and participate.
Ladies’ Wednesday Night
Ladies enjoying social tennis and a lively workout last Wednesday were Ann O’ Sullivan, Mary Jo O’ Farrell and Rose Costello. Play starts at 7.30 until 9.30.
Junior Coaching
Clem continues coaching sessions every Saturday starting at 10am for children 4 to 8 years old. At 11 he coaches children ages 9 to 12 and from 12 he coaches older children. Please contact Clem at 0864022490 for further details.
