Men’s Doubles Spring League
A wet windy Monday evening did not deter a small number of members turning up for the men’s competition. Sai Palada and Dave Costello were the winning combination with Vincent Hall and Nigel Coyle as runners up. The next two Mondays will determine the spring doubles winner and placed players. Rob Kearney is the leading player with twenty one points, in hot pursuit are trio John Galvin, Marek Rose and Sai Palada with nineteen points each.
Ladies’ Doubles Spring League
The ladies doubles spring league winners last Wednesday were Laura Hunt and Julie Costello. Michele Culligan, with most points to her credit, partnered Rose Costello to second place. Anna Walsh and Roisin Casey were third while Deborah Mc Keown and Louise Costello earned fourth placed points. Carmel Hayes and Mary Jo O’ Farrell also shared in the points. Draw for partners is at 7.30 and play continues until 9.30 every Wednesday.
Mixed Doubles Competitions
Ellie Yusupova partnered Tony Mc Farland and were the winning couple in last week’s mixed doubles competition. The runners up were Rose Costello and John Bray. New potential members are always welcome to take part any Thursday, play commences at 7.30.
Annual Athlone/Loughrea Challenge Match
Our annual challenge against Loughrea Tennis club takes place this Sunday 28th April commencing at 12pm. Six ladies and six men from Loughrea club will compete in ladies, men’s and mixed doubles events against a similar number from Athlone. History records that Loughrea have one more title to their credit than the home team. Sunday’s competition will hopefully put the record at 4 wins each.
