Annual General Meeting
Our AGM was a smooth event with the various reports very positive and well received. The election of officers for the coming year was uncontentious, most position holders retaining their roles for another year. Roisin Casey, Laura Hunt, Warren Curtin and Clem Higginbotham join the office holders as secretary, ladies’ captain, deputy chairperson and junior organiser respectively.
The main topic for discussion and debate concerned the future development of Athlone tennis club. Chairperson, Lisa Brennan, gave a detailed account on the negotiations with officials from Westmeath County Council. Members were happy to hear about the developments to date. Next year will be momentous and memorable in the history of our club.
It was also decided that the tournaments committee would conduct surveys of members to ascertain which nights of the week would be most suitable for various competitions.

Men’s Autumn Doubles League
John Galvin and Kieran Mc Carthy were the winners of the men’s autumn league doubles final competition. Martin O’ Rourke and Dave Costello were in second place while Marek Rose and Jimmy Raleigh were next collecting two points each. Michael Rodgers and Nigel Coyle added one point to their total. Marek Rose pipped Dave Costello, by the minimum, winning the doubles league with 26 points, Rob Kearney was third on 22 points. The men’s winter doubles league will commence this Monday.
Christmas Hampers Competitions
Our junior Christmas hampers competition is on Saturday 8th from 2 to 4pm. The senior event is on Sunday 9th December from 11 to 1pm. All members are welcome to participate in these seasonal events, seasonal attire will be appreciated but please don’t out do Santa!
