Junior Club Championships

The Temple Print sponsored junior club singles championship competitions were completed the 8th and 9th August last week. The doubles events are due to be played later. Lisa Brennan and junior organiser Laura O’ Cluaid supervised the organisation and efficient running of the various competitions. Parents and competitors showed their appreciation with a rousing cheer and generous handclapping.

The standard of tennis skills displayed by all the children was quite exceptional and great credit is due to their dedication and sporting ability. Their coaches have brought the boys and girls, who participated over the two days, to a high standard of tennis skills. This will continue in the autumn with additional coaching and an autumn league.

Temple Print has been a most generous supporter and sponsor of the junior championships for the past twenty years and this year was no exception. Athlone tennis club committee members thanks Ciaran and appreciates his continued support for this important competition.

Midland League

Division 3 players Orla Kinahan, Anna Walsh, Richard Frank and Des Windsor Mc Glynn drew 2-2 in a home fixture against Roscrea last Wednesday, however they were the winners on games won which may prove to be important in order to reach the play offs. Division 6 competitors were less fortunate losing out to Loughrea in our first time competing in this division. Rosemary Thorpe, Claire Mc Carthy, Mary Tormey and Cathy Smith will be hoping for better luck this week.
