Our Senior Open commenced Sunday 8th and will run all week with the finals to be played Sunday next. Open referee Lisa will enjoy an easier week this year as the persistent good weather is to continue, wet weather is the bane of every tennis competition organiser.
In the men’s A competition Maircin Juszcjyk beat Des Windsor Mc Glynn, however Des overcame John Galvin in the B event. Harry O’ Rourke beat David Manser in the A competition. In the B event Paul Murphy beat Kieran Mc Carthy, Gary Sharkey beat Cathal Kenny. Terese de Chaumont beat Claire Redmond in the ladies premier competition.
Summer Camps
We have two summer camps this year, the first starting Monday 16th and continuing to Friday 20th July. The second begins Monday 30th July and ends Friday 4th August. Both summer camps caters for members and non-members of our club. These camps are suitable for children age five to twelve. Further details and to register are available from Clem 0864022490.
Men’s Doubles Summer League
Harry O’ Rourke collected four points last Monday again and his partner Pat Conway also added four to his collection. Martin O’ Rourke and Dave Costello were second gaining three points each with Des Windsor Mc Glynn and Lucas Mierzwa in third place. John Galvin and Marek Rose added the minimum to their total.
Club Nights
Club nights are cancelled this week as our open competition takes pride of place. Harry O’ Rourke and Pat Conway were the winners last Monday. Joan Conway and Mary Jo O’ Farrell were very consistent and competitive during the ladies session Tuesday evening last. The largest number of competitors, so far this year, were in action last Thursday. It was more convenient to have two competitions with the Jacinta Digby/P J O’ Reilly and Sarah Seoige /Dave Costello partnerships winning their respective events.
Coaching
Clem will continue coaching for junior members each Saturday morning. Children ages 4-7 have lessons from 10 to 11 o clock, children 8-12 at 11 o clock and teenagers up to 18 years from 12 to 1 o clock. Further details from Clem 0864022490. Just turn up and join in!
Lisa continues coaching every Saturday. Coaching is for adult members and for adults who wish to come along and participate in the tennis lessons. Interested persons may contact Lisa at 0862215843 for further details.
