Ladies’/Men’s Doubles Competition
The men’s and ladies doubles competitions were completed during the past week. The knockout men’s competition was played on Monday with the ladies event played on Tuesday. The winners from each night played in the finals last Thursday.
The following four men’s pairings were successful in the initial event, Harry O’ Rourke/Jimmy Raleigh, Rob Kearney/Marek Rose, Kieran Mc Carthy/Cristi Tibuh and Martin O’ Rourke/Cathal Kenny. The four leading lady duos were Lisa Brennan/Rose Costello, Laura Hunt/Joan Conway, Ann O’ Sullivan/Oonagh Collins, Stephane Kenny/Roisin Casey.
After the round robin series of matches last Thursday Harry and Jimmy held the most points with Rob and Marek in second place, the former partnership were victorious in the A final while Martin and Cathal overcame Kieran and Cristi in the B final.
The ladies final was quite an unfamiliar affair. Work commitments and the Rolling Stones concert in Croke Park were among other matters to be attended to. However the ladies final was the best of three sets. Paula Dowling and Joan Conway triumphed against Deborah Mc Keown and Rose Costello in an exciting close encounter.
Annual Athlone/Loughrea Challenge
Our annual friendly competition against Loughrea tennis club is this Sunday 27th May starting at 12pm in Loughrea. Six ladies and six men have signed up for this ladies, men’s and mixed doubles competition. This is the eight year of the event with the crystal trophy currently residing in Loughrea, however we will be striving to bring it back to Athlone and even up the shared years at four each.
Summer Leagues
All matches must be completed by 14th June 2018. As usual the pyramids will be revised after the league on a two up, two down basis. All matches are best of three sets, the third set may be a 'match tie-break'. All results must be entered on the sheets posted in the clubhouse. No walkovers allowed.

Coaching
Clem will be starting coaching for junior members on Saturday 5th May. Children ages 4-7 have lessons from 10 to 11 o clock, children 8-12 at 11 o clock and teenagers up to 18 years from 12 to 1 o clock. Further details from Clem 0864022490.
