Topic of Conversation
The main topic of conversation last Monday night was the Indian Wells final between Roger Federer and Juan Martin Del Potro who inflicted the first defeat of Federer’s 2018 season. The Argentinian was the better player in the first set, the Swiss the better in the second and for much of the third. Both men had moments of tetchiness, each in turn having a go at chair umpire, Dubliner Fergus Murphy, but it was Del Potro who kept his cool lifting the cup after a third set tiebreaker. Most club members are Federer fans but few begrudged Del Potro his win.
