Midland Leagues
Last week Athlone 2 team had an excellent victory in division 3 of the midland league. This was the only match played by Athlone teams during the week due to various circumstances.
Athlone 2 visited Loughrea last Wednesday and the team consisting of Anne Dooley, Paula Dowling, Tomasz Koza and Luciano Molinari came home with a 4-0 victory.
Anne and Paula won the ladies doubles 9-3 while Luciano and Tomas accounted for the Loughrea men 9-2. In the mixed doubles Paula and Tomas won 9-6 with Anne and Luciano winning 9-2. They have a home match this Wednesday against Birr Wilmer 1.
Athlone 1 have an away match against Tullamore this Wednesday, this is their first match as they had to postpone the original fixture against Birr Wilmer I. Orla Kinahan, Michele Culligan, Richard Frank and Des Windsor Mc Glynn are the team members.
Division 5
The Athlone ladies will entertain Puckaun this Thursday and will be hoping for their second victory in their league. Julie and Rose Costello, Mary Jo O’ Farrell and Olivia Sumner will compete against the opposition.
Social Tennis
Last Monday Michael Beirne and George Bodor were prominent and conspicuous, both playing steady tennis.
During Tuesday night’s session Jacinta Digby and Anne Dooley formed a winning combination integrating some deft net play with excellent baseline groundstrokes.
In Thursday’s mixed doubles Sile Furey and Arek Trezbski had a good night on the courts combining well to outclass many of the opposing duos.
Coaching
