Membership Forms

Our new tennis season begins from May 1st and membership forms with remittance should be returned to Mary Jo O’ Farrell before May 14th as after that date fobs will be deactivated for non-payment.

Michael Creighton Memorial Competition

This men’s annual competition will be held in Mullingar next Sunday 8th May. Athlone will have two teams competing in the eight singles and four doubles events. Team 1 members will be Pawel Michalski, Tomasz Koza, Rob Kearney and Jimmy Raleigh. Team 2 members are Des Windsor Mc Glynn, Derek Stenson, Richard Frank and Dave Costello. Play commences at 10.30.

Junior Coaching

Derek Stenson coaches every Tuesday and Friday for children from age 6 to 16 starting at 5pm. For details on the above and all related coaching and junior activities you can contact Derek at 0851080013.

He plans to have inter club tournaments with children from Moate and Tullamore Tennis Clubs on possible 15th and 29th May. There are some very good junior players coming through at present and these events will further advance their tennis development.

Clem Higginbotham will commence coaching on Saturday May 7th for children under 7 at 10am. Children ages 8 to 11 have coaching at 11 and coaching for older children will start at 12. Clem can be contacted at 0864022490.

May American Tournament

Our May American tournament was played on Sunday and this monthly event is proving to be very popular and highly entertaining. Sarah Seoige and Kieran Mc Carthy were not partners but after two hours of friendly tennis they emerged as the leading lady and gent on May day.

Spring Leagues

Gertie O’ Rourke, Mary Jo O’ Farrell and Maeve Bass were winners in the ladies leagues during the past week. Jeremy and Tim Clarke are going very well in group A of the men’s league and it will be the match to see which brother will win the group and reign supreme on the men’s pyramid. Rob Kearney was also a winner lately. All matches have to be played by May 19th.

Engraving

All junior and senior cups are being collected for engraving over the next ten days. All current holders of cups should drop them down to the clubhouse any Monday, Tuesday or Thursday any time between 7.30 and 9.30.

Social Tennis

Rob Kearney and Dave Costello played steady consistent tennis last Monday night having an excellent time on the courts.

Olivia Sumner and Michelle Clyne were competitive during Tuesday night’s two hour session of doubles tennis.

Sarah Seoige and Marek Rose combined successfully and had many winners against the other partnerships last Thursday.

Social tennis continues on three nights of every week and potential players wishing to have a go at playing the game are most welcome to come along, play commences at 7.30. Men compete every Monday, the ladies play every Tuesday while mixed doubles competitions are held every Thursday.
