Senior Club Championships

Lisa Brennan and Harry O’ Rourke were crowned ladies’ and men’s club champions last Saturday after competing in our annual senior club championship. Lisa Brennan defeated Orla Kinahan in two sets while the men’s final was a classic, Harry O’ Rourke finally getting the better of Jeremy Clarke after some terrific tennis from both players. The large group of spectators witnessed a three set titanic contest between two of our younger better senior members. In fact the cognoscenti among them opinionated that it was one of the better finals they ever witnessed.

Carmel Hughes overcame Laura O’ Cluaid in the Ida Smith cup while Deepak Karanth beat Prateek Jain to lift the Dave Costello cup.

In the ladies doubles, Orla Kinahan and Deirdre Cox combined to defeat the Paula Dowling/Deborah Mc Keown combination. The mixed doubles was won by the Orla Kinahan/Richard Frank duo defeating Lisa Brennan and John Cooney. Tim Clarke and Peter Agbanobi overcame Martin O’ Rourke and Kieran Mc Carthy to take the men’s doubles cups.

The plate finals were also keenly contested.  Des Windsor McGlynn beat Richard Frank, Stephane Kenny overcame Roisin Casey in the men’s and ladies’ plate finals respectively. Rosemary Thorpe was also a plate winner against Sowyma Halappa.

Joan Conway and Mary Jo O’ Farrell overcame Ann O’ Sullivan and Carmel Hayes in the ladies doubles plate final. Paula Dowling and Marek Rose were too good for Mary O’ Neill and Des Windsor Mc Glynn in the mixed doubles while the David Manser/Richard Frank combination were awarded a walk over in the men’s doubles plate final.
