Men’s Doubles Summer League

Martin O’ Rourke and John Cooney added four points to their total in the men’s doubles summer league last Monday. Marek Rose combined with Cathal Kenny to claim second spot with Harry O’ Rourke and Dave Costello in third place. John Bray and Nulene Agbanobi collected points also. This competition will end this week. After the long hot summer of competition Dave is on twenty five points with Harry, Marek and John Cooney on twenty two points each.

Club Nights

The four courts were busy last Tuesday evening with a large number of ladies competing. Ladies’ captain Paula Dowling organised the event, Stephane Kenny and Rosemary Thorpe were on top of their game winning many long exhausting rallies. Laura Hunt and Nigel Coyle were a competitive duo in Thursday’s mixed doubles session.

Mullingar Open

The Mullingar open starts Monday 3rd and all finals are on Sunday 9th September. Entries if interested to Richie 0863664326 or Patricia 0879036142. There will be three grades in all events, ladies’ and men’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles competitions, catering for a multitude of players. Closing date is Wednesday 29th August.

Senior Club Championships

Please note that our senior club championships will be from Monday 10th and will be run off over three weeks. The finals will be played Saturday 29th September.

US Open

In the last Grand Slam of the year which begins this week, one of the big three, Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal or Novak Djokovic, with 20, 17 and 13 Grand Slam titles each respectfully, are poised to add another title. The young pretenders Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas may have to bide their time for another year. Djokovic must be favourite after recently winning the Cincinnati open and becoming the first player to win all nine masters 1000 titles. Simona Halep and Sloane Stephens are the favourites for the ladies title.

Coaching

Clem will continue coaching for junior members each Saturday morning. Children ages 4-7 have lessons from 10 to 11 o clock, children 8-12 at 11 o clock and teenagers up to 18 years from 12 to 1 o clock. Further details from Clem 0864022490. Just turn up and join in!
