Midland League Division 3

Our division 3 team members Orla Kinahan, Michele Culligan, George Bodor and Des Windsor Mc Glynn travelled to play Birr Wilmer and were narrowly defeated 1-3. George and Des won their doubles match while the ladies lost their doubles. Athlone lost both mixed doubles matches. They have another away match against Roscrea this Wednesday.

Midland League Division 4

 It was deja vous for division four team members against Tullamore last Tuesday. While Mary Jo O’ Farrell and Laura Hunt lost their doubles match Dave Costello and Marek Rose had a titanic struggle winning theirs in a tiebreaker. Unfortunately they lost both mixed doubles matches. Our next match is against Ballinasloe.

Senior Summer Leagues

Melanie Whyte and Lisa Brennan were winners in group 1 of the ladies league during the past week. Rose Costello and Laura Hunt were also winners in their group. Des Windsor Mc Glynn, Harry O’ Rourke, Martin O Rourke, Rob Kearney and Warren Curtin were winners in their respective groups.

Men’s League

Ladies’ League

Group 1: Lisa Brennan, Melanie Whyte, Michelle Culligan, Jacinta Digby, Orla Kinehan, Anna Walsh.

Group 2: Mary Jo O'Farrell, Gertie O'Rourke, Rose Costello, Laura Hunt, Joan Conway, Ann O'Sullivan.

Group 3: Roisin Casey, Aileen Cunnie, Stephane Kenny.

Club Nights

Harry O’ Rourke was once again a winner while Fergus Groenendijk and Marek Rose were runners up last Monday.

Aileen Cunnie and Sarah Seoige played consistent and competitive tennis during Tuesday’s ladies’ matches.

Rose Costello and Jamie Waldron were the most formidable combination in the mixed doubles competition last Thursday.

Junior Tennis

Clem Higginbotham has started coaching lessons for junior members every Saturday for children under 8 at 10am and at 11 for children under 12. Older children have lessons from 12 to 1pm. For further details contact Clem at 0864022490.

Coach Derek Stenson has commenced a seven week course for junior members for children aged from 4 to 17 years. The coaching is on Tuesdays and Fridays commencing at 4pm. For details of these sessions you may contact him at 0851080013 or email rallyvolleysmash@gmail.com.
