The finals of the Junior League took place last Wednesday and despite atrocious weather conditions produced much exciting tennis and closely fought matches. Teams A and D contested the final and despite goods wins for Harry O’Rourke (after a tie-break decided a great match against Francisco Lopez) and Aoife Raleigh of team A, it was team D who won out by just a single point – 24 to 23 – in a nail-biting climax. The victorious team consisted of Francisco Lopez, Ciaran Connolly, who’s 7-2 win made all the difference, Donal Byrne and doubles team Renee Menard and Niamh O’Dowd. In the third place play-off, team F prevailed with good wins for Rian McNamara and Anna McCullagh while Conor Rice was the sole victor for team C. Presentation of trophies and prizes took place afterwards with club chairman Dave Costello congratulating the players on the quality of tennis and their sense of fair play (T. Henry take note!). He expressed the clubs sincere thanks and appreciation to junior organizer Martin O’ Rourke for his dedication and work in overseeing the successful running of the junior autumn league. The first pyramid for juniors is now posted in the clubhouse with rankings based on the autumn league.
