Senior Club Championship Report 20-9-09

The Keenan Sports/www.athloneproperty.ie sponsored senior club championships matches were played over the past two weeks, in very pleasant seasonable weather.  The finals, which were played, in very favourable conditions last Saturday, were rewarding and were a very successful occasion for many ladies and gents of Athlone Tennis Club. A large number of matches, fourteen finals to be exact, including ladies and men’s singles, ladies and men’s doubles and mixed doubles matches were contested in a fair and sporting manner. There were seven cup finals and seven plate finals completed. All skills associated with the game of tennis were witnessed with lots of stamina sapping rallies and courageous volleying from highly skilful and super fit competitors. A large number of spectators enjoyed the tennis and many everyone savoured the exceptional food prepared by ladies captain Carolyn Tunney.Before the presentation, Club Chairperson, Dave Costello, congratulated all the competitors for their participation, he thanked sponsors Peter Keenan and Olly Mc Grath for their keen interest and generous support for Athlone Tennis Club.
